My wonderful husband got me the greatest birthday present: a new bicycle! He works at a bicycle shop, so this is not the first bike he has given me. It might be the coolest, though. It is an old black Univega frame with parts that he hand-picked for me. I have ridden it several times so far, towing Sweet Pea in her trailer on a few of the rides, and it is fantastic. It rides smooth and quiet, shifts with the littlest "click," and fits me well.
I feel very lucky to live in a town that is relatively easy to bike around. We even rode our bikes to Home Depot the other night and strapped our purchases to the trailer. What is your city or town like for biking? Have you tried running errands by bike or do you just bike for fun?

I use to bike all the time when I lived in LA but my area in Austin is just not for biking even though most areas in Austin have a ton of bikers. I would love to have a bike trailer but haven't broken down to buy one yet. I'm hopeing the next town we move to will be more bike friendly or at least the area we move in to.
ReplyDeleteYou look great!
Thanks, Melissa! I have some friends who are moving to Austin so that's nice to hear that most of it is bike-friendly. We used to live at the top of a big hill, and when we were looking for a place to buy we definitely considered whether the neighborhood would work for bicycle commuting. It's not perfect, but doable from our current home. A new bike bridge is being built over a nearby highway so it will get even better soon!
